We serve our clients -the public, Yukon government departments and the Highways and Public Works team - by building partnerships and providing a broad range of critical services. The Department of Highways and Public Works: Builds and maintains transportation infrastructure, systems and programs to ensure safety for travellers and support economic growth within the territory; Builds and maintains government buildings to provide safe workplaces for YG employees and public access to government services; Provides centralized network, software and telecommunications services to government departments to support their evolving use of information and communications technologies; Facilitates public access to government information while protecting the privacy of individuals; Provides a central source for collecting and distributing Yukon government data and imagery; Provides asset management, technical and logistical services to government departments fleet vehicles, printing, publishing, procurement, central stores, mail delivery and coordination of government travel; Provides government departments with contract administration, risk management and insurance services; Supports our HPW colleagues by providing centralized corporate services in the areas of policy, communications, finance, information management, and human resources.

Company Facts


HPW maintains approximately 4,800 km of roads for a population that is concentrated in one urban center and stretched out between 13 other communities with populations of 2000 or less

Approximately 375 kms of roads are paved, 1,974 kms are covered with Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST), and 2,463 kms are gravel

Yukon’s population is about 36,500, which equals 7.5 people per km of road

Aviation Branch operates and maintains 4 airports and 25 aerodromes
