Vancouver, BC—The Western Transportation Advisory Council's (WESTAC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the BC Ferry & Marine Workers’ Union (BCFMWU) as the Council's newest member.

BCFMWU is the largest Maritime Union in Canada, representing over 4000 members from across 39 vessels, 47 ports of call, and numerous job sites. BCFMWU membership includes a diverse group of trades, ships’ officers, commercial services drivers, and unlicensed workers, both ship and shore, who work to deliver goods and transport people to communities along our coastal highway.

“With more than 270,000 Canadians employed in the transportation sector in Western Canada, the voice of labour is important to WESTAC. Having Canada’s largest maritime union join WESTAC will ensure the maritime labour perspective is well represented,” said Lindsay Kislock, President & CEO of WESTAC.

The Official Representative to the Council is Eric McNeely, Provincial President. The Alternates are Dan Kimmerly, Ships’ Officers’ Component (SOC) President and Paula White, 1st Vice President.

“The Ferry Workers’ Union is pleased to join WESTAC and provide a voice and unique perspective to the marine transportation system and our connections with rail and road in a collaborative and nonpartisan forum. Working together with the private sector, government, and other stakeholders, we believe solutions to the existing and future challenges for Western Canada’s transportation and supply chain can be identified and implemented, and we look forward to years of partnership with WESTAC as a member of the Council,” noted Provincial President, Eric McNeely.
