Calgary, AB – The Western Transportation Advisory Council’s (WESTAC) members were pleased to welcome the Hon. Anne McLellan, Co-Chair of the Coalition for a Better Future, at the annual Fall Member Forum in Calgary. Ms. McLellan is a former Liberal Deputy Prime Minister, and she Co-Chairs the Coalition with the Hon. Lisa Raitt, a former Conservative Deputy Leader.

The Coalition for a Better Future is a cross-Canada, cross-partisan and cross-industry initiative aimed at driving collaboration to develop a bold new economic and social vision for the country that delivers economic growth and a high quality of life for Canadians.

The group has created a scorecard of 21 internationally-recognized metrics to track Canada’s overall progress across three central goals: winning globally, living better and growing sustainably. The Coalition’s membership includes over 140 members spanning a wide range of industries, community and civic associations, and academia. WESTAC is pleased to be a member of the Coalition.

Ms. McLellan highlighted the critical work the Coalition is doing, focusing on the urgent need for Canada to create a long-term economic strategy. Ms. McLellan also recognized the vital role the transportation industry plays in delivering economic prosperity to Canada.

“We were thrilled when Anne accepted our invitation to speak to our members. She outlined Canada’s need for an economic plan that makes economic growth a policy priority, which is critical to strengthening Canada’s societal foundations,” said Lindsay Kislock, WESTAC’s President and CEO.

The Coalition scorecard is key to ensuring Canada’s economic progress benefits everyone while respecting the environment. “Having internationally recognized metrics to track and evaluate progress sets Canada up for success. As the saying goes, what gets measured gets done,” noted Lindsay Kislock.
