WESTAC welcomes two new members to the council: Rocky View County & Pacific Pilotage Authority

Vancouver, BC – November 20, 2017 – The Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC) is pleased to welcome Rocky View County and Pacific Pilotage Authority as the newest members of Western Canada’s premier forum for transportation leaders.

WESTAC is a council of senior transportation leaders and policy makers working to enhance the competitiveness of Western Canada’s supply chains through ongoing discussion of challenges and opportunities.

Rocky View County and Pacific Pilotage Authority are important links in the western transportation network and their contribution to our discussions will enhance the excellence of our supply chains. ABOUT OUR NEW MEMBERS

Rocky View County

Rocky View is home to CN Rail’s Calgary Logistics Park in Conrich, a state of the art, 680 acre “inland port”. Rocky View is also home to a number of large Western Canada distribution centre facilities in Balzac (north of Calgary) including: Walmart Food Distribution Centre, Sobey’s (and Safeway) Distribution Centre, Gordon Food Service Distribution Centre, Smuckers Warehouse, and many others.

In the Conrich area, east of Calgary, Rocky View County is home to the Princess Auto Distribution Center. Currently, Whirlpool Canada’s Western Canada warehouse is being constructed in the area. Most recently, Rocky View County has succeeded in becoming the location of Amazon’s newest Fulfillment Centre.

Complementing the logistics activities in the Calgary Region, Rocky View is the location of choice for many trucking companies and support services including Canadian Freightways, Bison Transport, Rosenau Transport, TransX Group of Companies, Tri-Line Carriers, Kleysen Group, J&R Hall Transport, Arnold Bros Transport, Manitoulin Transport, H&R Transport, Ocean Trailer, GBM Trailer and many others. Rocky View County is also home to the Alberta Motor Transport Association.

Pacific Pilotage Authority

The Pacific Pilotage Authority is a federal Crown corporation whose mandate is to administer this service in the waters of Western Canada. Its area of jurisdiction encompasses the entire British Columbia coast, extending approximately two nautical miles from every major point of land. This jurisdiction includes the Fraser River and stretches from Alaska in the north to Washington State in the south and is one of the largest pilotage areas in the world.

Representatives: The Official Representative will be Capt. Kevin Obermeyer CEO and the Alternates will be Stefan Woloszyn, CFO and Brian Young, Director of Marine Operations.
